After a three goal and seven-point weekend, Melanie Baskind of the women’s soccer team has been selected as the COOP Athlete of the Week and Ivy League Player of the Week for Sept. 27.
Though the Crimson fell 4-3 at Penn Friday, Baskind scored twice, the first goal put Harvard up, 2-1, and the second evened the score at three. In continuing her solid play, Baskind would strike again on Sunday against UMass redirecting a cross from Elizabeth Weisman into the back of the net. The goal would stand as the gamewinner for the Crimson who is currently 3-4-1. Baskind also tallied an assist on Katherine Sheeleigh’s goal that put Harvard up 1-0.
Baskind currently leads the team with five goals this season and is second in points with 11, one behind Sheeleigh. She is also currently only one of three Crimson to start all eight games this season.
