CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight crew varsity eight has been named the COOP Athlete of the Week for May 6.
The top-ranked Black and White cruised to a win in the EAWRC Sprint May 5 for the first time since 2004. Radcliffe dominated from the start, opening up a lead by the 500-meter mark en route to a time of 7:17.823 on the Cooper River. The win was 8.259 seconds faster than second place Princeton, which was the largest margin of victory in the first varsity race since 1996.
The win also helped Harvard secure the Konrad Ulbrich Points Trophy, given to the team with the best overall performance. It is the first time in the seven-year history of the award that Wisconsin did not capture the crown.
Radcliffe will be off until May 30 when it heads to Sacramento, Calif., for the IRA National Championships.
