The sophomore helped the men’s tennis team reach the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament. In the opener against Sanford, Nguyen topped Zac Dunkle, 6-3, 6-4, to earn Harvard’s first point en route to a dominant 4-0 win over the Bulldogs. In the second round against Mississippi State, Nguyen teamed with Casey MacMaster to earn a win over the No. 13 doubles tandem in the country. Radcliffe dominated from the start, opening up a lead by the 500-meter mark en route to a time of 7:17.823 on the Cooper River. The win was 8.259 seconds faster than second place Princeton, which was the largest margin of victory in the first varsity race since 1996. The win also helped Harvard secure the Konrad Ulbrich Points Trophy, given to the team with the best overall performance. It is the first time in the seven-year history of the award that Wisconsin did not capture the crown. The junior broke her own mark on her final throw of the event, tossing the weight 20.83 meters (68-4.25 feet) to improve upon her throw of 20.11 meters at the HYP meet earlier this month. In each of the five races, Lee or Lee and his relay pairing met NCAA ‘B’ qualification standards. The junior set the school record in the 50 freestyle, breaking teammate Chris Satterthwaite’s mark, with a time of 19.76, which is also the 10th best mark in the NCAA this year. He also established a new personal best in the 100 freestyle with the 10th best time in the NCAA this year, swimming the distance in 43.29 seconds. The government concentrator was a member of the 200 freestyle relay team that set a new school record of 1:18.71 and the 200 individual medley relay that established a new top mark in Crimson annals with a time of 1:27.18.
