On Saturday, April 10, Harvard Athletics will be celebrating its first Friends of Jaclyn Day. Events will be held during Harvard softball’s doubleheader against Penn (12:30 p.m. start) and baseball’s twinbill against Penn (noon start).
Among the events for the day will be trivia questions between innings, dizzy bat races, t-shirt sales and giveaways, autograph sessions and a raffle for tickets to a Boston red Sox game. All proceeds will go to the Foundation. There will be a booth to write letters to current patients and fans are encouraged to wear purple.
Friends of Jaclyn is a charitable organization that improves the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families. FOJ matches a child in need of love, support and friendship with a sports team based on geographic basis. The child becomes an extension of the team where a unique bond is formed between the team members, the child and the family. (www.friendsofjaclyn.org for more information.)
Harvard, and many other collegiate teams, are looking for children and families who would like to be matched with a team and become part of this wonderful program.
On Saturday, the baseball team will be joined by teammate Alex Wawrzyniak, its 3 foot 3, 45-pound shortstop and right-handed pitcher from Marshfield, Mass. Earlier this past winter, the Harvard team threw Alex a birthday party and celebrated his selection as the team’s number-one overall draft choice. Alex has been at a variety of events and practices in the team’s Harvard Stadium Bubble since then.
