TUCSON, Ariz. – Harvard dropped its season-opening game at 7th-ranked Arizona by a score of 7-1 at Hi Corbett Field.
Brandon Kregel supplied Harvard's lone run with a solo home run in his first career start, a long ball in the seventh inning.
Senior Brent Suter (0-1) took a no-hitter into the fourth inning but Arizona scored three times before adding two run apiece in the sixth and eighth innings.
All told, UA (6-2) outhit Harvard by a count of 13-6 while Harvard committed three errors.
Arizona ace Kurt Heyer threw a complete game, striking out 14 batters against no walks. Trent Gilbert had three runs batted in to pace the offense while cleanup hitter Johnny Field was 3-for-4.
The teams continue to three-game series Saturday afternoon.
