Nick Easton and the Crimson open the season Sept. 19 (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seniors Nick Easton and Zach Hodges of the Harvard football team have been honored on the FCS Preseason All-America first team by the Collegiate Development Football League ( CDFL), sponsor of the 5th annual 2014 FCS Senior Scout Bowl to be held Saturday December 20, 2014, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Hodges, who continues to receive preseason accolades, was named to the Butkus Award Watch List, given to the nation's top linebacker, and has been tabbed to multiple other All-America and All-Ivy League teams. A native of Atlanta, Ga., Hodges, who was selected as the recipient of the Asa S. Bushnell Cup, given to Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, made 40 tackles and had 6.5 sacks, ranking second and first, respectively, in the conference in 2013. He also forced four fumbles and enters his senior season just 2.0 sacks shy of the all-time school record, held by Chris Smith '98.
Easton, an offensive lineman from Lenoir, N.C., received All-Ivy League first team honors, playing both guard and center, last fall. He played in all 10 games and helped Harvard establish a new program record with a 67.0 percent passing completion rate. The Crimson also scored 371 points, third most in school history.
Harvard will open the 2014 season at home, hosting Holy Cross Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
