Norman Hayes will serve as the 141st Harvard football captain in 2014 (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rising senior defensive back Norman Hayes of the Harvard football team has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CPFA) Football Championship Subdivision Defensive Back Award Watch List.
Hayes, who is among 38 defensive backs in the FCS vying for this award, will serve as the 141st captain in Harvard history this upcoming fall.
"Congratulations to Harvard Captain Norman Hayes on earning a spot on this year's watch list," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "Hayes produced a number of strong performances which helped Harvard win a share of the 2013 Ivy League title."
Hayes, who hails from Tucker, Ga., was named to the All-Ivy League team after recording 56 tackles during his junior season. He ranked tied for third in the Ivy League with three forced fumbles and was tied for the team lead with two interceptions. As a sophomore in 2012, Hayes garnered All-Ivy second-team status.
Three Harvard players have earned CFPA honors. Last season, Zach Hodges shared the CFPA Defensive End Award. Hodges followed fellow CFPA winners Colton Chapple '13 in 2012 and 2011 recipient Kyle Juszczyk '13.
The full list of 2014 CFPA winners will be announced January 14, 2015.
