CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rising senior quarterback Conner Hempel of the Harvard football team has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CPFA) Football Championship Subdivision Quarterback Award Watch List.
Hempel, who is among 37 quarterbacks in the FCS vying for this award, earned All-Ivy League honorable mention after tossing for 1,866 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior in 2013.
"Congratulations to Harvard's Conner Hempel on earning a spot on this year's watch list," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "Hempel played a statistically significant role, helping Harvard average 37.1 points per game last season."
A native of Union, Ky., Hempel completed 157 of 238 passes (.660) last fall, good for the third best completion rate for a single-season in school history. He also ran 98 times for 259 yards and added five TDs on the ground.
Three Harvard players have earned CFPA honors. Last season, Zach Hodges shared the CFPA Defensive End Award. Hodges followed fellow CFPA winners Colton Chapple '13 in 2012 and 2011 recipient Kyle Juszczyk '13.
The full list of 2014 CFPA winners will be announced January 14, 2015.
