2013 Schedule

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Rutger Wiese, who served as a volunteer assistant with the Harvard field hockey team in 2012, has been added as an assistant coach. Wiese fills the vacancy in the staff left by Julie Munson, who was named head coach at Southern New Hampshire University.

"We are very fortunate to have Rutger join our staff as an assistant coach," said head coach Tjerk van Herwaarden. "Rutger has a very strong understanding of the game and combined with his passion for making people better, he will be a strong addition. As a player, Rutger has won several national championships on the highest level and as a coach he has international experience with the USA men's national team. I am thrilled to have Rutger join the team and I am confident that he will have a direct positive impact."

Wiese's coaching experience is highlighted by a seven-year stint as head coach at Indiana University Pennsylvania from 2003-09. He guided IUP to a 96-39 (.711) record, which ranks him first in career wins and winning percentage for the program. The Division II squad appeared in three NCAA final fours (2004, '06, '07) and two quarterfinals (2005, '08). He also led IUP to a conference title in 2007.

Wiese is currently the head coach of the Junior Men's East Coast High Performance Training Center team, a position he has held since 2011. He helped the squad to a national championship in his first year.

Wiese is also an assistant coach with the USA men's national team. He was part of the staff this year when the red, white and blue finished fourth at the Pan American Cup in Toronto.

As a player, Wiese has a wealth of international experience. He won three Netherlands national championships (1999, 2000, '02) with HC Bloemendaal and was part of GHHC Groneingen's Overgangsklasse Champions team in 1996. Wiese also owns a European silver medal from 2000 and a gold medal from 2001. In 2010, he led Menzieshill HC to the Scottish National Indoor Championship.

Wiese and the Crimson start the 2013 campaign Sept. 6 at Massachusetts. The home opener is slated for Sept. 8 against Bryant on the Ivy League Digital Network.
