Tommy Amaker Quotes From Ivy Men's Basketball Teleconference

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Head men’s basketball coach Tommy Amaker recently took part in the midseason Ivy League basketball teleconference. Below are his quotes from the event.

Head Coach Tommy Amaker’s Opening Statement:
We are pleased with the effort and the defensive effort from our club at this point. We have had a good balance this season. It was good to get wins over big opponents. As Ivy League play opens up, the play will need to change but we’ll still go out and play our game. Getting that first home win over Dartmouth in the Ivy League opener was huge and we’ll look to continue that success as we go on.

On Senior Guard Jeremy Lin:
He’s been what I describe as one of the better players in the country this year and has been very consistent. Jeremy has been our catalyst and his leadership has played a key role in our success. He makes everyone around him a better player and we are thankful that Jeremy has been able to stay healthy throughout the year.

On the Freshmen Class:
We’ve had solid contributions from our first year class. Five of our seven freshmen have contributed to the success. We’ve been pleased with their play and are impressed with their improvement. We’re going to keep on working with them so that they can stay healthy and keep on getting better with the balance of basketball and academics.

On The Changing Culture at Harvard to a Winning Culture:
We’ve played a very challenging schedule we’ve tried to upgrade our schedule and I believe that we’ve done that fairly well. Having a very challenging schedule has lifted our players spirits and it has motivated us to a level that we haven’t seen before. We are trying to better our program by scheduling these prolific programs like those from the Atlantic-10, ACC, Big East, Conference USA and other big conferences.

On Conference Powerhouse Cornell:
We have seen Cornell play due to the games on television. They are a very experienced and talented team with all of the components for success. We recognize how good they are and how confident they are. We are going to treat that game like we would treat any other game.
