Men's Basketball Bolsters Roster With Addition of Six Freshmen

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's basketball team adds six student-athletes from the Class of 2015 to the program this fall.  The class, which consists of four forwards, a guard and a center, includes three players that are natives of California, as well as student-athletes who hail from Florida, Minnesota and Utah.

"We are pleased to welcome these six student-athletes into our program and university," said Tommy Amaker, who is entering his fifth season as head coach at Harvard. "These young men will be tremendous additions to the Harvard community and will contribute to our basketball program as we continue to strive for excellence."

Harvard is looking to build upon the best season in program history, as the Crimson won its first Ivy League title and reached the NIT for the first time. The Crimson posted a 23-7 overall record and went 12-2 in the Ivy League. The squad returns every member from last season's team, including reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Keith Wright and All-Ivy honorees Kyle Casey, Brandyn Curry and Christian Webster. Wright and fellow senior Oliver McNally will once again serve as co-captains of the Crimson.

Max Hooper, Guard/Forward/6-6/210/Carmel Valley, Calif./Brewster Academy
Earned varsity letters in basketball at Brewster Academy, Mater Dei and Valley Christian High … Received all-state honors all four seasons … As a senior, named to Lora and Orange Holiday Classic all-tournament teams … Tabbed All-Trinity League and All-California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) … Honored on Pangos All-American camp all-star team and was recipient of Trent Tucker Award for best 3-point shooter in camp …. Named to California All-Ball is Life team and was honored on National Prep School Invitational all-tournament squad … Helped Mater Dei to a 26-game win streak and established highest single season 3-point shooting percentage in school history (49.5 percent) … Made 313 3-pointers during career at Mater Dei … As a junior, was tabbed to West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) team and was named to the San Jose Mercury News all-area team … As a sophomore, was named Nor Cal Tip Off Classic MVP … Three-time recipient of Scholar-Athlete Award … Father, Chip, was a swimmer at Missouri State …. Other interests include art history and contemporary art … Owns a basketball shoe collection of well over 300 pairs and maintains a detailed, catalogued collection.

Received four varsity letters at Brighton High … Served as team captain during junior and senior seasons … Was named all-state three times … Tied state record for most 3-pointers made in one game, making eight treys in back-to-back contests … Honored as Student of the Trimester on two occasions … Has volunteered in his church youth organizations since 2005 … Grandfather, Larry Miller, played basketball at UNLV … Father, Bret Miller, was a basketball player at Bellevue and BYU-Hawaii … Cousin, Nathan Miller, was a member of the Weber State basketball team.
 
 
Steve Moundou-Missi, Forward/6-7/225/Yaounde, Cameroon/Montverde Academy
Was high school teammate of Ugo Okam at Montverde Academy … Is a native of Yaounde, Cameroon … Earned three varsity letters … Captained team as a senior … Earned ESPN Rise All-America second-team honors …. Named Lake County Player of the Year as a senior … Helped team finished second at 2010 ESPN National High School Invitational tournament … AP Scholar … Won 2010 mathfax (math competition) national championship … Father, Jean Paul, and mother, Annette, both played for the Cameroon national basketball team in the 1980s … Other interests include listening to music and playing soccer.
