CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Gavin Grant, a former national collegiate medalist and boys’ varsity coach at Noble and Greenough School, has joined the Harvard heavyweight crew staff as a volunteer assistant coach for 2011-12.
Grant coached the boys’ rowing team at Nobles from 2008-10. He led the team to a gold medal at the 2009 USRowing Youth National Championships and a bronze medal a year earlier.
Before coming to Boston, Grant worked full-time as a member of the logistics team for the National Outdoor Leadership School at its Teton Valley base in Driggs, Idaho. He was responsible for outfitting, rationing and route-planning for multi-day wilderness expeditions throughout the inter-mountain west, as well as daily backcountry skiing to scout the terrain.
A 2003 graduate of the University of Washington, Grant stroked the UW freshman eight to a runner-up finish in the 2000 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships. A year later, he earned an IRA silver medal as part of the Huskies’ second varsity eight.
