Olympic gold medalist Malcolm Howard ’05 and Pan American Games silver medalist David Wakulich ’11, both former members of the Harvard heavyweight crew, have been invited to participate in training, and selection of boats, for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England, Rowing Canada Aviron has announced.
Both athletes will train and compete for spots in the men’s eight at the Rowing Canada Aviron Olympic Training Camp. Defending Olympic champion Canada earned a spot in the 2012 Olympic Games in London with a bronze-medal performance at the 2011 World Rowing Championships. Howard was a par t of both that bronze-winning boat and the Olympic-champion eight in Beijing in 2008.
Wakulich began training with Canadian national program following his graduation from Harvard in the spring. He was a part of the eight at the Pan Am Games last month in Guzman, Mexico. The Canadians edged Argentina by three-quarters of a second to take the silver medal, trailing only the United States.
