Harry Parker Awarded Harvard Medal
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Harry Parker, the Thomas
Bolles Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Crew, has been awarded
the 2012 Harvard Medal for extraordinary service to the
university.
Parker, in his 50th season coaching the Crimson, was one of five
recipients named by the Harvard Alumni Association. They received
the medals from President Drew Faust as part of Harvard’s
Commencement ceremonies Thursday afternoon. First awarded in 1981,
the Harvard Medal recognizes extraordinary service from teaching,
leadership, and innovation to fundraising, administration, and
volunteerism.
The other honorees were Ellen R. and Melvin J. Gordon, Charles W.
Collier and Susan S. Wallach. Melvin Gordon ’41 is a former
Crimson football player. He and wife Ellen have been loyal and
dedicated supporters of Harvard Athletics.
