Harvard won two of the four races at the regatta, as the Crimson's freshman also pulled off a victory, under conditions that featured a strong variable headwind and chop.
Princeton won the opener with its fourth varsity rowing past Harvard's third varsity. The Tigers were across the line in 6:35.3, ahead of Harvard at 6:44.0. Next were Harvard's freshman, which rowed the fastest time of the day outside of the teams' top two varsity boats. The Crimson newcomers were clocked at 6:26.4, while Princeton's third varsity recorded a 6:31.2.
Harvard's second varsity lost for the first time this season as Princeton's second varsity topped the Crimson for just the third time in the last 12 years. The Tigers won by a length at 6:13.2, compared to Harvard's 6:16.5.
In the final race of the day, the Crimson took the marquee matchup. Harvard's varsity, which is ranked No. 2 in the country, was challenged by the fifth-ranked Tigers, but ultimately held off Princeton. Harvard edged the Tigers by 3.4 seconds with a one-length lead at the finish line.
Harvard will be looking for its 50th Adams Cup victory next weekend when Penn (14 Adams Cups) and Navy (13 Adams Cups) visit the Charles River. Video of the racing will be streamed live for free on GoCrimson.com.
