Seniors Lead Men’s Heavyweight Crew to Victory at Head of the Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Harvard men's heavyweight crew defeated two USRowing Training Center Boats en route to victory at the Head of the Oklahoma regatta in Oklahoma City over the weekend. The Crimson seniors posted a blazing time of 1:21.662 in the men's open/collegiate 8+ 500m grand final Saturday night.
Senior William Hakim coxed the boat, as classmates Charles Risbey, Andrew Holmes, Ben Lynton, Peter Scholle, JP Hogan, Andrew Reed, Nick Jaroszewicz and Gregory Edwards rowed. Harvard topped its qualifying race by nearly 50 seconds before taking the night sprints finale under the lights.
In the final, Harvard bested USTC (1:23.862) by over two seconds. USTC OKC A finished with a time of 1:24.550 for third. The two USRowing Training Center boats included three Olympians and several Worlds medalists.
In the qualifying race, the Crimson finished the 2.5 mile Oklahoma River course with a time of 13:05.768, besting the two crews from Oklahoma City, as well as Wichita State and Washington.
Harvard will be back in action at the Head of the Charles on Oct. 19-20.
