CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard heavyweight crew took third overall – and first among collegiate squads – in the championship eights event at the 49th Head of the Charles Regatta. In an incredibly competitive event, the Crimson posted a time of 14:43.027, narrowly behind OTC Amsterdam (14:41.171) and USRowing (14:42.653).

The Crimson boat, coxed by William Hakim, contained Rory Glover, Andrew Reed, Max Meyer-Bosse, Charles Risbey, Edward Rippon, James Medway, Vincent Breet and Andrew Holmes. Harvard bested the French boat by 0.206 to earn the third-place spot.

Holmes also won the parent/child 2x with a time of 17:04.804. Racing from box No. 5, Holmes and his father Martin started strong and held on the beat the next-fastest boat by nearly eight seconds. The Harvard Alumni 2009 boat finished seventh in the alumni eights event (15:20.361).

In the club eights event, Harvard took fourth place behind Brown, BU and Northeastern with a time of 14:52.304. The Crimson held off Navy with a 2:29.855 final split to finish ahead of the Midshipmen by 0.100 second.
