CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The Harvard men’s and
women’s fencing teams have announced the schedules for the
2011-12 season. Both teams are slated for challenging tournament
competitions highlighted by the Beanpot Tournament, which will be
hosted by the Crimson this season.
Both teams open the 2011-12 campaign on the road at the Penn State
Open on Nov. 19. The Crimson tallied eight top-10 finishes in the
respective weapon classes between the two squads, boasting four
medal-winners with two gold, one silver, and one bronze during last
year’s tournament. Both teams will return to State College,
Pa. three weeks later to compete in the Penn State Invitational on
Dec. 3. The Crimson women’s team will then open their home
schedule hosting Tufts on Dec. 10 before heading into the holiday
break.
Harvard returns to action on Jan. 22, as the Crimson take part in
the St. John’s Invitational in Queens, N.Y., before gearing
up to compete in the Ivy League Championships on Feb.11-12. The
Crimson will play host for this year’s Beanpot Tournament
slated for Feb. 14, which will be Harvard’s only joint home
event for the two squads.
The Crimson will close out the season at the NCAA Regional
tournament in Boston on March 11 and the NCAA Championships on
March 24-25 held in San Antonio, Texas. Harvard finished sixth out
of 30 schools during last year’s NCAA Championships while
boasting a national champion as rising freshman Alexandra Kiefer
claimed the tournament’s foil individual title.
