Staller’s Championship Bid Comes Up Short; Harvard Fencing Finishes Sixth at NCAA Tournament
Senior Valentin Staller was looking to put a final exclamation point on his Harvard career by claiming a individual title at the NCAA championships this weekend, but came up short in the final round, as Harvard concluded its bid for a national title in Columbus, Ohio, Sunday. Staller earned a berth in the semifinal round placing in the top-four spots, and played his way to the championship round before falling to Penn State’s Aleksander Ochocki, 15-11. Harvard finished the tournament with six All-American honors.

Both freshman Brian Kaneshige and senior Valentine Staller were included as part of’s weekly “Primetime Performers of the Week” list. The two Crimson fencers impressed at last weekend’s Ivy League Championship helping the men to second-place finish, as the squad went 4-1.

No. 3 Men’s Fencing Sweeps Its Way to Beanpot Title
The No.3 men’s fencing team swept all three Boston area opponents, MIT, Boston College and Brandeis to claim the 2012 fencing Beanpot title, Tuesday night at the Malkin Athletic Center. The men’s foil division led the way for the Crimson only losing three matches the entire tournament.

The No. 3 Harvard men’s fencing team defeated Columbia, 15-12, and Brown 18-9, completing the Ivy League championship with a 5-1 record and second-place behind Princeton (6-0). The Crimson also earned four Ivy League awards in the process

No. 3 Harvard Men’s Fencing Goes 2-1 at the Ivy League Championship
The No. 3 men’s fencing team and defending Ivy League champion, went 2-1 on the first day of the conference tournament on Saturday, defeating Penn (14-13) and Yale (15-12) while falling to Princeton (14-13). Senior captain Valentine Staller led all Crimson combatants with an 8-1 record during the first day.
