SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – Freshman Seiji Liu picked up two victories and Anthony Grillo and Connor Wentzell had one victory each in the Harvard-Yale-Princeton tri-meet at Sebonack Golf Club on Sunday. Yale took the team title as the Bulldogs won a total of eight matches.
Each team put forth five players in groups of three, with each group member playing a head-to-head match against the other two in his group. Wentzell picked up his victory with his 5-and-4 win over Princeton’s Patrick Wasserman. Grillo earned a 4-and-3 win over Princeton’s Evan Harmeling.
Liu, who just days earlier was listed as a national Freshman to Watch by Golfweek Magazine, made the honor stick in his first collegiate outing. Liu earned a 6-and-5 victory over Yale’s Brandon Marick and a 4and-3 win over Princeton’s Chase Lovett-Woodsum to lead Harvard’s second place finish.
Yale won eight of the 15 matches, while Harvard picked up four victories to Princeton's two. Princeton’s Bernie D'Amato halved his match with Harvard's Mark Pollak, but half-points were not awarded.
