CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ted Donato '91, The Robert D. Ziff '88 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Ice Hockey, announced the addition of seven freshmen to the Harvard men's hockey roster for the 2012-13 season. The class of 2016 features players from five different states (Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan and New Jersey) and one Canadian province (British Columbia). The group also includes two National Hockey League draftees.
The septet of freshmen will join a team coming off a run to the ECAC title game in 2012. The 2011-12 Crimson set an NCAA record for ties in a single season with 11, but translated those points into a third-place finish in the regular-season standings and a first-round playoff bye. Harvard took down Yale in the quarterfinals and topped Cornell, 6-1, in the semis before falling to Union, 3-1, in the league title game.
