Brian Eklund joined the Harvard men’s coaching staff in the fall of 2013 as a volunteer assistant goalie coach and is in his second season with the team in 2014-15. Eklund was a valuable resource for the Harvard netminders in his first season, helping Raphael Girard '14 earn All-Ivy League accolades in his senior campaign.
No stranger to ECAC Hockey, Eklund played four seasons with Brown, earning ECAC All-Academic honors three years in a row. A seventh-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Eklund spent time with the Providence Bruins (AHL), the Springfield Falcons (AHL) and the Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL). He made his NHL debut with the Lightning against the Montreal Canadiens in the 2005-06 season.
A Massachusetts native, Eklund grew up in nearby Braintree and received numerous area accolades, including High School Male Athlete of the Year as a senior, Boston Globe and Boston Herald Dream Team honors and receiving the John Carlton Award present by the Boston Bruins. He played for Archbishop William high school and helped the squad to a Division I state championship as a junior.
Eklund is the owner/director at Massachusetts Crease, a goalie school that he developed to mentor aspiring goaltenders of high school age and above.
