CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior attackman Dean Gibbons and junior attackman Kevin Vaughan have been selected as the captains for the Harvard men's lacrosse team for the 2011 season, Chris Wojcik, the Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse announced Monday.
Gibbons, who hails from Garden City, N.Y., was tabbed to the
United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)
All-America team last season, garnering honorable mention
accolades. Gibbons led Harvard in scoring in 2010 with 41
points, scoring 27 goals and dishing out a Crimson-high 14
assists. He averaged 3.42 points per game, which ranked 21st
in the nation, and stood second in the Ancient Eight in points and
fifth in goals.
Gibbons also scored six man-up goals and tallied multiple
goals in nine of 12 games last spring. A two-time All-Ivy League
and New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA)
choice, Gibbons has scored 62 goals and handed out 34 assists for
96 points in his career.
A native of Ridgewood, N.J., Vaughan ranked third on the
Crimson with 15 goals and 23 points as a sophomore in 2010.
He also collected 26 ground balls and paced the team with two
game-winning tallies. Vaughan was named COOP Student-Athlete of the
week April 26 after having a hat trick, netting the game winner and
picking up for ground balls in Harvard's 11-8 win over No. 6
Princeton at Harvard Stadium April 24.
