TORKU, Finland -- With the help of three Harvard men's lacrosse players, Team USA defeated Canada, 10-8, Saturday to capture the gold medal at the 2012 FIL U19 World Championship.
Sophomore defenseman Stephen Jahelka, who served as a captain of Team USA, sophomore midfielder Sean Mahon and junior attackman Daniel Eipp aided the squad in winning three straight elimination games en route to the gold medal. Team USA downed Germany, 22-2, in the quarterfinals, topped the Iroquois Nation, 12-7, in the semifinal round, before earning the gold medal by defeating Canada.
Team USA entered the elimination round with a record of 2-2, having dropped games to Canada and the Iroquois Nation, but finished the tournament 5-2. Eipp scored nine goals in the tournament, including one in the championship game against Canada.
