Men's Lacrosse Adds Seventh-Best Recruiting Class for 2014

Men's lacrosse welcomes nine members of the Class of 2017 (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRDIGE, Mass. – Chris Wojcik '96, The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse, has once again assembled one of the top recruiting classes in the nation as he has announced the addition of nine freshmen for the 2014 season. Harvard's Class of 2017 has been ranked as the seventh-best recruiting class by Inside Lacrosse and features four individuals ranked in the top 100.

"We are happy to welcome the class of 2017 to campus," Wojcik commented. "The class embodies high character, talent, and a strong collective work ethic. The nine young men hail from eight different states, and are a product of strong high school programs. Our staff is excited to welcome them to campus this week, and begin preparations for the 2014 season."

Harvard has boasted a top 10 recruiting class each of the last five years, including the third-ranked classes in 2011 and 2009, and the fourth-ranked class a year ago. This year's group includes Inside Lacrosse's No. 15 recruit in midfielder Sean Coleman, the No. 22 recruit in long stick midfielder Matt Ryan and one of the top faceoff prospects in the nation in Austin Williams. The class also includes No. 31 Max Greene, No. 69 Luke Mendola, Colin Delea, Spencer Evans, Ryan Norton and Jamie White.

Lettered in lacrosse at Phillips Exeter Academy … Two-time captain, four-year letterwinner in lacrosse at Bishop Guertin … Led Bishop Guertin to three consecutive  New Hampshire Division I State Championships … Named NSCLA All-American and Champion All-American in 2012 … Competed in the Champion All-American showcase … Two-time NH Division I All-State first team selection … Two-time Nashua Telegraph boys lacrosse all-star … In 2012, named boys lacrosse all-star by the Lowell Sun … Graduated a member of Cum Laude Society at Phillips Exeter Academy in 2013 … Named a U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American in 2012 … Class Valedictorian at Bishop Guertin … Recipient of the 2012 Bishop Guertin Senior Award for leadership demonstrated through both academics and athletics … For three years went on mission trips to Gulfport, Miss., to provide aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Ranked as the No. 69 recruit in the class of 2017 by Inside Lacrosse … Four-year letterwinner and two-time captain … Helped Ithaca to its first NYSPHAA championship appearance in school history in 2011 … Led Ithaca to back-to-back runner-up performances in the NYSPHAA championship as a sophomore and junior … Helped Ithaca to the final-four in the NYSPHAA tournament in 2010 … Four-time all-section team selection … Voted Ithaca's best defensive player for three straight years … Also a five-year letterwinner in hockey and captained the team as a senior … James Tatscore School award recipient for achievement in athletics and academics … Part of the Vitamin L Project since 2006 and was the 2009 recipient of the Distinguished Youth Award … Vitamin L Project was honored by President Obama and Governor Davis Paterson of New York for its volunteer work.

Matt Ryan | Long Stick Midfielder | 6-2 | 190 | Ipswich, Mass. | Phillips Exeter Academy
