CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Pieter Lehrer, the Virginia B. and James O. Welch, Jr. '52 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Soccer, has announced the hiring of Darren Murray to the men’s soccer coaching staff. Murray will serve as a coaching assistant and will work with the Crimson goalkeepers.

Murray comes to Cambridge after a two-year run as an assistant coach at nearby Boston College. The stint was Murray’s second on head coach Ed Kelly’s staff as he previously assisted the Eagles during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Prior to his most recent stay at BC, Murray was the head coach at Endicott for four seasons. Other coaching credits for Murray include the New England Aztecs (2006-present), Newbury (2005-07) and the South Shore United Blazers (2002-05). He also spent time with the New England Revolution (2002-03) and three seasons at Mercyhurst from 1999-02.

Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass., was Murray’s first stop in the U.S., before transferring to Mercyhurst in 1995. He graduated from Mercyhurst in 1998, but not before leading the Lakers to two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and garnering all-conference and all-region honors. His playing career began in 1988 in the St. Patrick’s Athletics League of Ireland and he went on to attend the Football Association Ireland Soccer School of Excellence (1991-92) and play in the St. James Gate League from 1992-93.
