West, Gemmell Named to Squash Canada's World University Championships Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– Senior Colin West of the Harvard
men’s squash team and freshman Laura Gemmell of the Crimson
women’s team are among five players who have been selected to
Canada’s 2010 World University Championships team, Squash
Canada announced this week.
The five person team, consisting of three males and two females,
will compete in Melbourne, Australia July 11-17.
West, a native of Toronto, Ont., was a member of the 2008 World
University Championships team that placed fourth in Cairo,
Egypt. A member of Squash Canada’s Espoir Men’s
National Training Squad, West won the College Squash Association
individual national championship this season. The winner of
the Pool Cup and recipient of the Skillman Award, he garnered his
third straight nod to the CSA All-America first team after posting
a 16-1 overall record. West was tabbed the Ivy League Player
of the Year and earned his fourth straight All-Ivy League selection
after going 11-1 at the No. 1 position.
Gemmell, who also hails from Toronto, compiled a perfect 16-0
overall record during her rookie season in Cambridge. She
claimed the CSA individual national title, winning the Ramsay
Cup. An All-America first team selection, Gemmell was honored
as the Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year and was an All-Ivy
League team performer. She boasted an 11-0 record at the No.
1 slot and did not lost a game during the dual season.
