Lewkowitz, Meyer Turn in Strong Performances at 5K Championship

Marine Stadium hosted the U.S. National Open Water Swimming Championships.

LONG BEACH, Calif. –
Two days after competing in the Open Water Swimming 10K National Championship, Alex Meyer and Blake Lewkowitz turned in solid performances in the 5K Championship Sunday at Marine Stadium.   

The two Crimson swimmers both placed in the top ten out of a field of 66 competitors and were among the top eight Americans to finish the race. Meyer, coming off a thrilling fourth-place finish in the 10K event, recorded another fourth-place finish in the 5K race, finishing with a time of 57:16.023. After placing 32nd in the 10K, Lewkowitz registered a stronger race in the 5K, placing 10th with a time of 59:10.192.

As a result of his strong results over the weekend, Meyer has been invited to swim in the 25K event at the Sixth FINA World Open Water Championships July 15-23 in Roberval, Quebec.
