Harvard will face two top-15 teams in head-to-head
competition in 2011-12 (Harvard Athletic Communications).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men’s swimming & diving team will host six different opponents in head-to-head competition in the upcoming season, as the university announced the team’s 2011-12 schedule. The home schedule features a pair of tri-meets as well as two dual competitions.
The 2011-12 schedule kicks off with a stiff test, as No. 17 Texas A&M takes to Blodgett Pool Nov. 11. Harvard begins its conference schedule a day later when it hosts Dartmouth and Cornell in the first of two Ivy League tri-meets. The UNC Invitational, which takes place Nov. 17-19 in Chapel Hill, N.C., is the final event in November for Harvard.
The Crimson will compete at the USA Swimming National Championships Dec. 1-4 in Atlanta, Ga., before heading to New York to face Columbia in the final meet of 2011. The team will take its annual training trip to Puerto Rico, where it will face off against Connecticut in a dual meet Jan. 12.
Harvard returns home for a meet against Brown Jan. 19, then travels to Columbus, Ohio, for a dual against No. 10 Ohio State Jan. 21. Harvard will host the annual HYP meet Jan. 27-28, and swims against Penn on the road Feb. 11 to wrap up its regular- season schedule. The 2012 Ivy League Championships will take place March 1-3 in Princeton, N.J.
“We have a schedule that is designed to challenge our swimmers and divers at every turn,” said head coach Tim Murphy. “The combination of our Ivy schedule, meets against perennially top-15 teams Texas A&M and Ohio State, the Invitational and USA Swimming National championships will push our swimmers to be their best. We look forward to the competition.”
