Men’s Tennis Bows to the Bulldogs, 4-2; Chalks Up First Win, Downing DePaul, 4-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Harvard men’s
tennis team claimed its first win of the 2009-10 season, a 4-1
victory over DePaul. The Crimson dropped the first match of the day
to Mississippi State, Saturday afternoon.
Harvard fell to Mississippi State, 4-2, Saturday afternoon. The
Crimson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by winning two doubles
matches to give it the point. Junior Aba Omodele-Lucien and
freshman Christo Schultz partnered up to earn an 8-6 win at the No.
1 position. At the No. 3 spot, junior Alexei Chijoff-Evans and
rookie Joshua Tchan teamed up to win 8-2. Sophomore Alistair Felton
claimed Harvard’s second point, winning 7-6 (5), 6-2 at the
No. 5 singles slot. The Bulldogs swept the top four singles matches
to clinch the win.
In the nightcap, the Crimson squared off against DePaul to complete
the singles portion of the match. The two teams met Friday night in
doubles action with Harvard capturing the point. Omodele-Lucien and
Schultz picked up their second doubles win of the day. Felton and
Nguyen combined to win in doubles to earn the Crimson the point.
Senior captain Michael Hayes clinched the match for Harvard,
winning at the No. 6 position. Felton and Nguyen each picked up
singles wins to help the Crimson earn its first win of the spring
season. Harvard now stands at 1-2 overall.
The Crimson hits the courts Feb. 12, as it travels to New Haven,
Conn. to defend its ECAC Championship team title.
