Men's Tennis Assistant Reaches Australian Open Doubles Semifinals
MELBOURNE, Australia – Harvard men's tennis volunteer assistant coach Eric Butorac has reached the men's doubles semifinals at the year's first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.
Butorac and his partner Jean-Julien Rojer face brothers Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan today for a chance to play in the championship match Saturday. The duo has won its last three matches in straight sets, including upsetting the fourth-seeded pair of Oliver Marach and Lukasz Kubot in the quarterfinals.
Butorac joined the Harvard men's tennis coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in August 2010. He played collegiately at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., a Division III school, from 2001-03, capturing a NCAA singles title, as well as a doubles titles with partner Kevin Whipple in 2003.
