WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In the fall season finale, the Harvard men's tennis team put forth a strong effort over the weekend at the William & Mary Tribe Invitational. Four Harvard players earned All-Tournament Team honors, with two singles players and a doubles team grabbing the accolade.
Junior singles specialist Shaun Chaudhuri earned a spot on the all-tourney team, posting a pair of singles victories over opponents from William & Mary and Penn State. Rookie Sebastian Beltrame joined Chaudhuri on the All-Tournament team, finishing the weekend with a 2-1 record, including a 1-1 mark in the top singles flight.
Day 1 saw the Crimson singles crew handle the challenge put forth by a talented Old Dominion squad, posting wins in all seven flights of singles. Chaudhuri and Beltrame took care of business in the top two spots, while Alex Steinroeder, Andrew Ball, Brian Yeung, Nicky Hu and Connor Haughey also earned singles wins on the day. Hu, Yeung and Haughey all made it back-to-back wins the following day in matches against Penn State opponents, and Yeung and Haughey improved to 3-0 on the weekend with wins over William & Mary foes Sunday.
The doubles stars on the weekend were Brian Yeung and Nicky Hu, as the duo earned All-Tournament doubles honors. A pair of first-flight doubles wins over two tandems from William & Mary started the weekend off right, and the dup picked up its third win over a Tribe duo a day later. The 4-0 weekend wrapped up Sunday with an 8-6 win over William & Mary's team of Banks and Hoogland. Casey MacMaster also put together a strong weekend of doubles, picking up wins with Steinroeder, Beltrame and Haughey.
Harvard will pick back up after the New Year when it hosts a warm up event Jan. 17-19 at the Murr Center Tennis Courts.
