Men's Tennis Falls To Drake, 4-2, In Final Match of California Trip

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The Harvard men's tennis team (9-8) fell 4-2 to Drake (10-8) in its final match of the USD/SDSU Spring Break Invitational in La Jolla, Calif. The Crimson finished its California trip 2-2, with dual match wins against UC Irvine and San Diego State.

Against Drake, Harvard dropped the doubles point for the first time in the last six matches, but No. 1 doubles pair, 40th-ranked Brian Yeung and Kenny Tao, got back on track. Yeung and Tao defeated Drake's Bayo Phllips and Barny Thorold, 6-4, to move to 11-5 on the season.

In singles play, Jean Thirouin moved to 9-3 on the season, finishing the California trip an unblemished 4-0, by earning a 7-6 (5), 7-5 win over Drake's Calum Macgeoch. In No. 5 singles, Grant Solomon also picked up a win for Harvard, battling back from a long tiebreaker in the first set 6-7 (13) to win the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Harvard will return to the Murr Center Tennis Courts for three matches next weekend, taking on Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday (March 24) at 3 p.m. before hosting St. John's (12 p.m.) and Amherst College (5 p.m.) on Saturday (March 25).
