AVCA Honors Crimson for Academics
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The American Volleyball
Coaches Association has announced that Harvard is one of just two
men’s Division I teams to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award
for the 2008-2009 season.
Overall, 409 men’s and women’s teams from high schools
and colleges across the nation were honored with the award, which
surpasses last year’s total of 354 for a new all-time high
for the award. Only four men’s collegiate teams in all
divisions earned the award, with MIT, Stanford and Vassar also
making the list.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors
collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed
excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining
at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale
or a cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
