CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard men's volleyball team is set to kick off the 2011 season Tues., Jan. 25, when the Crimson hosts Newbury. Harvard will play its first seven games at home in the Malkin Athletic Center before its first road trip of the season to St. Francis on Feb. 18.
The Crimson is looking to build on last season's 5-16 record and third-place finish in the EIVA Hay Division.
Leading the way for Harvard will be the two junior captains of this year's squad, Matt Jones and Dan Schreff. Shaun Mansour will also play a key leadership role on this season's team as the lone senior on the Crimson roster. Mansour will be eager to compete at a high level each night having missed last season with a knee injury. Four sophomores and five freshmen round out this season's roster.
The 2011 schedule features seven teams ranked in the top 15 of the AVCA Division III coaches poll and three teams ranked in the top 15 of the AVCA Division I-II poll, including top-ranked Southern California. The Crimson will travel to California March 12-16 to take on No. 11 Cal St. Northridge, No. 6 Pepperdine and conclude the trip with a match-up against the No. 1 Trojans.
Fourth-year head coach Brian Baise talked with GoCrimson.com about the leadership on his young team, the tough schedule and the goals for the 2011 Harvard men's volleyball team.
