CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Matt Jones was named Offensive Player of the Week by the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Monday. The La Jolla, Calif., native helped lead Harvard to a pair of hard fought wins this past weekend, helping the Crimson defeat George Mason and Princeton in five sets.
In Friday night's match Jones tallied 20 kills, two shy of his season-high set against Cal Baptist on Feb. 8, while also recording eight digs and three blocks to help Harvard comeback to defeat the Patriots 3-2. He followed it up with a 15 kill performance the next day against Princeton, and added one ace and two block assists as the Crimson edged the Tigers 3-2.
Jones has been prolific for the Crimson this season as he is currently ranked first in the conference in kills per set with 4.00 and second in service aces per set with .50.
This is the first time since 2010 Harvard has received a player of the week nomination as Jones was the last to receive the accolade back on March 22, 2010. This is also the fourth time that Jones has garnered conference honors in his career.
Harvard men's volleyball will be back in action this weekend when it heads west to face Cal State Northridge, Pepperdine and Cal Baptist March 10, 12 and 13, respectively.
