White Named to Men's Junior National Volleyball Team for 2013 U21 World Championships

White will represent USA Volleyball for the second straight summer at the U21 World Championships (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rising junior DJ White has been has been named to the U.S. Men's Junior National Volleyball Team's 12-man roster for the upcoming FIVB Men's U21 World Championships and U21 Pan American Cup.

White is one of eight players returning to the junior national team from last year's gold medal winning squad at the NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship. The returning players are; Micah Christenson (S, Honolulu, Hawaii, University of Southern California, Aloha), Tony Ensbury (L, Manhattan Beach, Calif., Princeton University, SCVA), Driss Guessous (MB, Pasadena, Calif., Ohio State University, SCVA), Michael Henchy (OH, Ventura, Calif., Ohio State University, SCVA), Nicholas Olson (MB, New Berlin, Wis., Loyola University, Chicago, Badger), Ben Patch (Opp, Provo, Utah, Brigham Young University, Intermountain), Matt West (S, Seattle, Wash., Pepperdine University, Puget Sound) and White (OH, Hermosa Beach, Calif., Harvard University, SCVA).

Newcomers include; Taylor Gregory (MB, Saugus, Calif., Long Beach State University, SCVA), Tom Jaeschke (OH, Wheaton, Ill., Loyola University, Chicago, Great Lakes), Kyle Russell (OH, Loomis, Calif., UC Irvine, NCVA), Aaron Russell (OH, Ellicott City, Md., Penn State University, Chesapeake).

The squad will begin competition this summer at the U21 Pan American Cup July 12-20 in Costa Rica before reconvening at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., to train for the U21 World Championships, set to be held in Ankara and Izmir, Turkey, Aug.22-Sept. 1.

White is coming off a season in which he led Harvard to the highest national ranking in program history (No. 14) , its first appearance in the EIVA finals, and was named to the All-EIVA first team. One of the best outside hitters in the league, White ranked third in the conference for hitting percentage (.314) and was sixth in kills per set (3.21). He registered 10 matches with 10 or more kills, including four with 15 or more, and demonstrated his offensive efficiency with a hitting percentage of .400 or greater in six matches.

White was named the AVCA National Player of the Week on Feb. 19 after the Crimson knocked off both Rivier and No. 9 Penn State at home, marking an end to the Nittany Lions' 51-match win streak against conference foes. He was also twice tabbed as the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week, collecting honors on Jan. 22 and Feb. 18.

The 2013 men's junior national team will be led by Ohio State head coach Pete Hanson. He will be assisted by Penn State assistant coach Jay Hosack and University of Pacific assistant coach Jonah Carson.

The final 12-player roster was selected from an original field of 22 after a final tryout period in Southern California June 16-20.
