CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Nick Bendell of the No. 15 Harvard men's volleyball team has been named Off the Block/Springback, Inc. Co-National Freshmen of the Week after helping the Crimson clinch a postseason berth, Off the Block announced Monday afternoon.
Bendell averaged 11.29 aps and 2.00 dps in Harvard's final home weekend of the regular season to earn the first weekly honor of his career.
A setter from Orland Park, Ill., Bendell opened the weekend with a 34 assist performance that helped Harvard out-hit EIVA leader, No. 12 Penn State .348 to .320. He also added five digs in the three set loss.
Bendell hit a match-high 45 assists and guided Harvard's offense to a .408 hitting percentage in a 3-1 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) Saturday afternoon. Also in the win that clinched the Crimson's third straight berth in the conference tournament, Bendell contributed nine digs.
Bendell and Harvard return to action for its final weekend of regular season play when the Crimson travels to the Garden State for matchups against NJIT and Rutgers-Newark. The Crimson visits the Highlanders Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m., before taking the court against the Scarlet Raiders Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
