CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Nick Bendell has been named to the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Freshmen All-America Team, Off the Block announced Tuesday afternoon.
Bendell has helped the Crimson to a 15-7 overall mark and a program-best 11-3 record in EIVA play this year. The freshman has written his name in Harvard's record book along the way as the setter sits seventh in season and career assists with 733. In his first season in Cambridge, he has turned in five 50-assist performances on the year including a career-best 65 handouts at then-No. 12 Ball State March 16 to become the first member of the Crimson to amass the 60 assist plateau since Connor Gaughan '02 did so in 1999 against Eastern Mennonite. The Orland Park, Ill., local ranks among the EIVA's and NCAA's best in assist per set with 9.91 and has led Harvard to the nation's 13th-best hitting percentage, .289. Bendell was named Off the Block/Sprigback Inc. Co-National Freshmen of the Week April 7 after helping the Crimson clinch a postseason berth for the third consecutive year.
Harvard's season will continue in the EIVA tournament Thursday, April 24 as the second-seeded Crimson takes on the third seed in University Park, Pa., at a time to be determined.
