Kopp and Pierson Receive All-NEISA Coed First Team Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – Senior Brendan Kopp and sophomore Sarah Pierson were honored by the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association today as both received All-NEISA coed first-team accolades. Kopp was named to the first team skippers group while Pierson was included in the first team crew category.

Kopp and Pierson have been a reliable duo for the Crimson this season as the tandem has sailed in four regattas together this spring. Their biggest moment of 2012 came on April 14-15 when the two helped lift Harvard to its first New England Dinghy Championship in 11 years. The tandem in the A division recorded single-digit finishes in 13 of 18 races including placing top-thee in seven races during the weekend. Kopp and Pierson tallied 110 points, combined with the B-division score of 121; Harvard secured a total of 235, nine points better than second-place Rogers Williams. Harvard proved to come up big down the stretch as the duo placed first in the final four races to help deliver the victory.

The Dinghy Championship is the second first-place finish the two sailors have helped Harvard secure this season as the Crimson reeled in a top-finish at the Hood Trophy on Sept. 24. Kopp and Pierson sailed to two first-place and two second-place finishes in the regatta to help lift the Crimson to victory.

Kopp and Pierson were one of seven athletes to be nominated for their respective teams. This is also the first such award for both student athletes.
