LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Harvard softball team dropped a pair of games in between spring break tournaments, falling to Loyola Marymount, 3-0, and Bucknell, 7-6. The Crimson slips to 4-7 on the season and 2-4 on its current road trip.
In the first game, Loyola Marymount put up two runs in the second inning on the strength of a Brittany Pereda two-run home run, that proved to be enough for the win. Whitney Shaw, Jennifer Francis, Jessica Pledger and Stephanie Krysiak all had singles for Harvard.
In game two, the Bison put up two runs in the bottom of the first but Harvard worked its way back to a 3-3 tie through four innings of play. Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the top of the fourth, Ellen Macadam ripped a double to left-center, plating Margaux Black and Jessica Ferri to knot the score at three-apiece.
Pledger gave Harvard its first lead of the day in the top of the sixth, plating Ferri and Francis on a two-out double to right center. Pledger scored Harvard’s sixth run of the game when Jane Alexander singled to short, giving the guests a 6-3 lead. The Bison responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning and Harvard was unable to respond in the top of the seventh, sealing the 7-6 final.
Harvard is back in action March 18 as it begins the San Diego Classic II, squaring off against San Diego in a 10 p.m., game.
