CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior infielder Melissa
Schellberg has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the
league office announced Tuesday. Schellberg is the first Harvard
player to earn Player of the Week honors this season after
sophomore Rachel Brown earned Pitcher of the Week accolades for
March 9.
The Las Vegas native led all Crimson hitters last week with a .467 batting average, knocking seven hits in four games and extending her current hit streak to five games in the process. She went 2 for 3 with a run scored in Harvard’s home opener against Boston University and roped a double in a 3-2 loss to Quinnipiac on Saturday.
Schellberg wrapped up the weekend with a 1 for 2, 1 RBI performance in game one against Fairfield and followed in game two, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, a double and a run scored to help the Crimson sweep the Stags on the road. She ended the week with four RBI and two doubles.
The Crimson is back in action this weekend as it opens conference play with a doubleheader at Princeton April 2.
