CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore first baseman Whitney Shaw has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Shaw is the third Crimson softball player to earn Player of the Week honors this season, as teammates Ellen Macadam and Melissa Schellberg each received the nod earlier this year.

Shaw  capped the regular season off with a strong performance against division rival Dartmouth, helping the Crimson sweep the Big Green and clinch its third Ivy North title in four years. The sophomore started the Dartmouth series going 1 for 2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in game one and followed with a 2 for 3 showing in game two, where she registered two runs scored, three RBI and a double. Shaw scored two runs again on Sunday in game one, picking up two hits and driving in a run, and finished the regular season going 2 for 4 with two RBI and bashing her league-leading 12th home run of the season. For the Dartmouth series, the Crimson first baseman hit .583 with seven hits, seven runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and nine RBI while slugging 1.250. Shaw also tacked on another home run earlier in the week in a non-conference matchup with local rival Boston University, giving her three for the week.

Shaw and the Crimson will play for the Ivy League title and an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament this weekend against Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y.
