Softball Welcomes Rhode Island to Soldiers Field for 2011 Home Opener

Harvard put together an 8-6 record at home in 2010 (Harvard Athletic Communications).

Storyline

Harvard opens its 2011 home schedule with a doubleheader against Rhode Island Tuesday afternoon. Harvard enters the game with a 12-10 record on the season while URI is 1-21 on the year.

Last Time Out
Harvard played its final road contests of the month of March Sunday, splitting a doubleheader at Iona. With the score tied at 0-0 in the top of the seventh in Game 1, Mari Zumbro launched a pinch-hit grand slam to propel the Crimson to a 4-1 win. Rachel Brown matched a season high with 15 strikeouts in the win. Freshman Kasey Lange drove in a pair of runs in Game 2, but a three-run fourth inning by the Gaels allowed Iona to top the Crimson, 8-3, in the second game.

Spring Break 2011
Harvard played 11 games in nine days on its annual spring break trip, compiling a 5-6 record in games played in Riverside, Los Angeles and San Diego, Calif. Harvard won three of the four games it played at the UC Riverside Tournament and downed San Diego in a 1-0 thriller in its final game of the trip.
 
Ivy Recognition
Harvard has collected three weekly awards this season from the Ivy League. Rachel Brown and Ellen Macadam received Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the first week of the season and Brown won Pitcher honors again for the week of March 22. Macadam stood second in the league with a .424 batting average and Brown leads the league in innings pitched (66.0), strikeouts (111) and opponent batting average (.185).
