CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior co-captain Rachel Brown earned her second Ivy League Pitcher of the Week selection of the 2012 season, the league announced Tuesday. The league has given the award twice this season, with Brown receiving both honors. It is also the 10th Pitcher of the Week award of Brown’s career.
The senior was integral in Harvard’s success at the Northridge Classic, as the Crimson went 5-0 at the tournament. Brown kicked off the tournament with a complete game three-hit shutout of host Cal State Northridge, striking out a season-high 13 batters in the game. A day later, Brown twirled a one-hit shutout against Cal State Bakersfield and collected six K’s.
Brown’s final appearance of the weekend came against Pac 12 power Oregon State, who entered the contest with a 21-5 record and just two spots outside the national polls. Brown held the Beavers to two runs on five hits as the Crimson downed OSU, 3-2.
Harvard is back in action Thursday as it starts a three-day stay at the San Diego Classic II with a game against San Diego State. First pitch against the Aztecs is slated for 7 p.m. (10 p.m. EST).
