Laura Ricciardone didn't allow an earned run in 15 innings pitched last weekend (Harvard Athletic Communications).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fourth time this season, the Harvard softball team has produced the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week as the league announced sophomore hurler Laura Ricciardone was this week's recipient. It is the second time Ricciardone has received the accolade in her career.
The Slidell, La., native helped Harvard to a pair of doubleheader splits at Lehigh last weekend. In her first start against the Mountain Hawks, Ricciardone was masterful, scattering three hits and striking out four in a complete-game effort. She also made an appearance as a pinch hitter Saturday, ripping a single to leftfield to help the Crimson offense in a 3-1 victory.
In Game 2 Sunday, Ricciardone found herself in another pitcher's duel but once again emerged unscathed. The sophomore went nine innings and allowed eight hits, but kept the Mountain Hawks off the board in a 1-0 extra-inning win. She currently holds a 5-4 record on the season, along with a 2.00 earned run average and 29 strikeouts.
