STOWE, Vt. – Harvard's women again led the way as the Crimson finished ninth out of 15 schools at the UVM Carnival, held at Mt. Mansfield and the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt.
Rebecca Nadler powered the Crimson with a second place individual finish in the giant slalom event, guiding the Crimson to a fourth place team finish. In women's Nordic, the Crimson placed fifth in the 5K classic event and sixth in the 10K freestyle.
In a tremendous individual showing, Nadler reached the podium for the first time, just 0.6 seconds shy of the winning pace and 0.3 seconds ahead of the third place finisher. It took more than Nadler to secure a top five finish for the women however as Cate Kistler finished in 25th position and Caroline McHugh added a 27th place finish. Kistler and McHugh were separated by just 0.39 seconds after the two runs.
Nadler also led the way in the slalom event with a sixth place finish while Elizabeth Strong moved all the way from a 46th place qualifying run to a 19th place finish to secure her place in the top 20 by one hundredth of a second.
In the Nordic events, Alena Tofte continued her strong winter with a 15th place finish in the 5K classic after starting in 68th place. Esther Kennedy (28) and Jennifer Rolfes (30) supported the efforts as the women finished in fifth.
In the 10K freestyle, Tofte was even stronger, finishing in ninth place. Kennedy was also solid with a 23rd place finish.
Chris Stock led the men in the 10K classic with a 23rd place finish and he was equally impressive in the 10K freestyle with a 21st place finish.
Back in men's alpine, Kevin McNamara led the efforts with a 38th place finish, up from his starting position in 55th place.
