The Crimson has now won 14 of the 26 weekly awards given out by the Ivy League (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Temi Fagbenle helped the Harvard women’s basketball team to a 2-0 week with wins at Yale and Brown and was rewarded for her efforts by being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Fagbenle has earned the honor seven times this season, tying her with former Crimson standout Hana Peljto ’04 for the fifth most rookie of the week honors in conference history. The London, England, native has also been tabbed player of the week twice, bringing her weekly award total for the year to nine.
Harvard has combined for a total of 14 Ivy League awards this season, setting a new program record and putting the team one honor shy of Princeton’s all-time mark of 15. The Crimson has earned at least one honor each week it has competed.
Fagbenle averaged 17.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg for the week while shooting 73.7 percent from the field. On Friday at Yale, she scored a career-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and pulled down nine boards to lead the Crimson to a 67-54 victory. Fagbenle posted 14 points on a 5-of-7 performance with nine rebounds on Saturday as Harvard overcame an 11-point deficit to register a 68-58 win at Brown.
Harvard returns to the court this weekend as it hosts Cornell and Columbia at Lavietes Pavilion.
