Kelly McCarthy, Marissa Reichel Tabbed Lightweight All-Americans
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Seniors Kelly McCarthy
and Marissa Reichel of the Radcliffe lightweight crew have been
named to the 2012 Pocock Lightweight All-America team, the
Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association has announced.
McCarthy, a Los Gatos, Calif., native, and Reichel, from Weston,
Mass., are among the eight rowers selected to the team, along with
one coxswain. The duo helped the Radcliffe varsity eight place
third at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National
Championships to earn its first IRA medal since 2006. McCarthy and
Reichel also aided in the Black and White’s bronze-medal
finish at Eastern Sprints and 3-0 record in dual competition this
season.
Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their
team's national finish and coaches’ recommendations. Nominees
must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams'
varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
