CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Racing in blue and yellow shirts with the "Row For Boston" printed on them; the Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight crew won races against MIT's first and second varsity Saturday morning. MIT, as well as several other crews rowing on the Charles River, also wore the Row For Boston shirts designed by Radcliffe's Corinne Wee to honor those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.
Radcliffe started the day with an open-water win over the Engineers. The No. 1 ranked first varsity of the usually Black and White turned blue and yellow of Radcliffe jumped out to an early lead and gained more water to win, 6:39.4-6:51.9. Radcliffe remained undefeated on the season with the victory.
In the next race, Radcliffe's second and third varsity boats both won by over nine seconds against MIT. The Black and White 2V, which is also undefeated this season, was across the finish line in 6:56.3 and the 3V was 10.6 seconds behind. Radcliffe's third varsity was 9.7 seconds faster than the MIT 2V, which completed the 2,000 meters in 7:16.6.
The crews also rowed in a novice fours event and MIT came out on top in 8:17.5. Radcliffe entered two boats that finished in 8:32.2 and 9:04.2, respectively.
Radcliffe, and its unblemished first and second varsities, will travel to Camden, N.J., for Eastern Sprints May 5. The Black and White finish its season May 31-June 2 in Sacramento, Calif., at the IRA National Championships.
